The Pilgrimage Trail
to Kedarnath.
Redesigning a documentation-led journey through one of the most significant pilgrimage routes in the Uttarakhand Himalaya.
A route documented through place, pilgrimage and movement.
The Pilgrimage Trail to Kedarnath is a documentation-led publication exploring the route to Kedarnath and the cultural, geographic and historical context connected to the journey.
Like Bridges of Uttarakhand, the publication already existed before Unmatched Graphics was commissioned to redesign it.
The objective was to create a clearer and more visually coherent reading experience while preserving the documentation that makes the publication valuable.
Not just a destination.
A route of stories.
The publication documents the pilgrimage route itself — the places, landscapes and narratives encountered before reaching Kedarnath. The redesign therefore needed to communicate movement through the journey while maintaining the clarity expected from a documentation-heavy publication.
Documentation, made easier to navigate.
The interior was redesigned around stronger hierarchy, clearer spacing and a more consistent structure. The visual language needed to respect the seriousness of the documentation while still reflecting the spiritual and geographic character of the pilgrimage route.
One visual system for an entire journey.
Building a scene that didn't exist as a single photograph.
The cover required a different approach from the interior. Rather than relying on a single existing image, the final visual was created using Photoshop photo manipulation techniques. Multiple visual elements were brought together to construct a stronger representation of the pilgrimage landscape and give the redesigned edition a more distinctive identity.
A clearer way to experience the journey.
The redesigned publication presents the pilgrimage route to Kedarnath through a more coherent editorial system and a stronger visual identity. Unmatched Graphics handled the publication redesign, interior layout and cover visual development, creating an edition that balances documentation with the atmosphere of the Himalayan pilgrimage landscape.
