Bridges of
Uttarakhand.
Rebuilding a 450+ page documentation project into a clearer, tighter and more readable publication.
Redesigning an existing publication without losing the documentation behind it.
Bridges of Uttarakhand is a documentation-led publication exploring bridges across Uttarakhand, including information surrounding their construction, dimensions, history and other identifying details.
The book had already been published when Unmatched Graphics was brought into the project to redesign the publication in its entirety.
The existing edition extended across more than 450 pages. Our task was to reorganise the material, improve readability, manage excessive and inconsistent spacing, and create a more coherent editorial system.
450+ pages.
Rebuilt into
approximately 350.
The objective was not simply to make the publication shorter. It was to make the information work harder — reducing unnecessary space, creating consistency and giving the documentation a clearer editorial hierarchy.
Same documentation.
A different experience.
The redesign focused on structure, spacing and hierarchy — allowing dense information to remain accessible without making the publication feel unnecessarily heavy.
Information first.
Design in service
of clarity.
With a documentation-heavy publication, the visual system had to support the information rather than compete with it. Content was reorganised into a more consistent structure, spacing was rationalised and the pages were rebuilt around a clearer hierarchy so readers could move through technical and historical information more comfortably.
Hundreds of pages.
One consistent system.
The redesign needed a new first impression.
The cover became one of the most considered parts of the redesign. Rather than carrying the visual language of the previous edition forward, an illustrated approach was developed to give the publication a stronger identity and create a cover that better represented its subject.
Less volume.
More clarity.
The redesigned Bridges of Uttarakhand transformed a publication of more than 450 pages into an approximately 350-page edition through a more disciplined editorial system. The result retained the documentation at the heart of the book while creating a more coherent, readable and visually considered publication.
